HOLLYWOOD -- When it comes to career decisions, Alicia Silverstone is no longer clueless.
At 18, Silverstone became an overnight sensation playing the sweet, airheaded student in Clueless.
The success of the movie landed her a three-movie deal with Columbia Pictures worth $10 million and the role of Batgirl in Batman & Robin.
Then came a string of disappointments including Excess Baggage, Love's Labours Lost and Blast from the Past, plus Scorched and Global Heresy which failed to get major cinema releases.
"I think I did too many movies too quickly. I burned myself out and audiences got tired of me," says Silverstone, who turned 27 this month.
"To put my life into some kind of perspective, I went to Africa and took a trip down the Amazon. I just chilled out. I realized there was more to life."
She may have chilled, but when she returned to Hollywood, she was once again a hot property.
First she got offered a role in the Broadway production of The Graduate and then Darren Star, the producer of Sex and the City, offered her the TV series Miss Match.
Star recalls that several years ago, he met a matchmaker in New York who was also a divorce lawyer.
He says he was "immediately intrigued by the seeming contradiction. I had wanted to work with Alicia for years and tailored Miss Match for her."
Silverstone was hesitant at committing to a series, but then looked at the kind of film roles she was being offered.
"Most of the movies were ones I wouldn't pay $10 to see and the writing on Miss Match was so good, each episode plays like a mini movie."
Each week on Miss Match, Silverstone tries to improve the love lives of others.
She insists she doesn't need help with her own love life.
She has been living with Chris Jarecki of the L.A. punk rock group S.T.U.N.
Silverstone will have a cameo in next summer's comedy Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
