From Krypton to IMAX, the Man of Steel has a new home, as the hi-tech, jumbo-screen exhibitors will convert roughly 20 minutes of "Superman Returns" into 3-D.
Variety reports director Bryan Singer is keeping tight-lipped regarding which sequences will be converted, simply stating that a visual cue will be implemented to notify audiences when to wear their IMAX 3-D glasses.
Singer, whose previous foray into the comic book world includes the first two X-Men films, said that the test scenes that have been converted "look, sound and feel absolutely amazing" and that the experience will "envelope audiences in this story, enabling them to feel the emotion, drama and suspense in a completely new and unique way."
Warner Bros. and IMAX concede that, in order to win over apathetic moviegoers, they must provide an experience that can't be replicated anywhere else. Execs at both companies are hoping the 3-D venture will prove worthwhile.
IMAX Filmed Entertainment chair-president Greg Foster said the goal is to eventually convert an entire live-action film, and their efforts with "Superman" is a "perfect way to begin this process."
