Sylvester Stallone is set to direct "Poe," a movie he wrote about the life of author Edgar Allan Poe, Variety reports.

Stallone is seeking Robert Downey Jr. for the lead role in the film.

Stallone's previous directing credits include the second, third and fourth "Rocky" films, and the "Saturday Night Fever" sequel "Staying Alive."

"Poe" is scheduled to begin shooting in Europe this fall.
