Q-107 tunes out bit on Stern radio show
By JIM SLOTEK

Q-107 pulled the Howard Stern Show yesterday just a day after Stern's radio show was axed in Montreal and his TV show was cancelled on CITY-TV.

But Q's move had nothing to do with CHUM's. Q-107, which was censured by the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council over Stern several months ago, has been monitoring the show with a 10-minute delay and pulling certain segments.

The station pulled the plug for 40 minutes yesterday over a segment involving "Gary The Retard," a semi-regular character on the shockjock's show. The station replaced it with a "best-of" rerun.

"The CBSC has been extremely sensitive about that segment and we have pulled it in the past," said Q-107 program director Pat Cardinal yesterday.

Meanwhile, Stern said on air yesterday that the Canadian government had been coming down hard on his show. "They're French," he said. "And you know what happens when someone comes down on them. They run!"

Stern later qualified the remark by saying he wasn't referring to French-Canadians.
