"I haven't a clue as to why, after seeing me in Boys Don't Cry, Charles thought I was the person to play this beautiful woman with breasts and big hair," says Swank, who won her Oscar for playing a girl who tried to live her life as a man.
"I bound my breasts for Boys Don't Cry and cut off most of my hair. It was as far a cry from one character to another that you could possibly get."
The Affair of the Necklace is already playing in limited release in Toronto and is scheduled to open in other Canadian markets later this month and in January.
Swank has already completed the drama Insomnia, in which she plays a detective investigating seasoned homicide investigator Al Pacino, who she suspects may have shot his own partner, accidentally or intentionally.
She has also completed The Core, a science fiction drama with Aaron Eckhart.
"I play an astronaut in The Core, so I had to do a lot of work in the gym to acquire some muscle. My husband likes my new buff body."
Swank is married to Chad Lowe, brother of Rob Lowe.
"I'd really love to show up on The West Wing. I'd do any kind of cameo. It's one of the best series on TV right now.
"I keep dropping hints but Rob doesn't seem to be getting them."
