Swayze dances into city
By RANDALL KING

WINNIPEG -- If you think you saw Ghost star Patrick Swayze on the streets of Winnipeg recently, you're not necessarily seeing phantoms.

The Texas-born actor is in town, working on the pre-production phase of the dance drama Without a Word (formerly titled Dancing Without a Word).

"He's producing," says Phyllis Laing, who is co-producing the film under the auspices of local production company Buffalo Gal Pictures. "We're basically making decisions about the design, casting, location scouting, all those sorts of things."

The film has been adapted by Swayze's actress-wife Lisa Niemi, who will also direct and star in it opposite her husband. The planned seven-week shoot is scheduled to start March 12.

When the Osmond family came to Winnipeg in January to film the conclusion of the TV movie Inside the Osmonds, they were shocked by the cold Winnipeg weather. But Laing says the family Swayze is undeterred by the temperatures.

"I would say he's pretty upbeat and really excited about moving forward on the project," Laing says.
