Sharon Gless, who starred as Chris Cagney in Cagney And Lacey, says she had a premonition about her friend and co-star Al Waxman this week when she last saw him, a few days before his surgery.
"He and Sara have had me under their wing since August," said a tearful Gless, who's been in Toronto filming Queer As Folk. "All these months, he's really been my confidant.
"He was always such a gentleman. He and Sara and I have been going out to dinner every two weeks, and this last was my turn. And as they dropped me off, he got out of the car and walked around and walked me to my door at the hotel. And he walked back to his car.
"I knew he was going to have this surgery. It wasn't frightening surgery, it wasn't supposed to be dangerous at all.
"But I called out to him and I said, 'Al!' And he said, 'What?' And I said 'I love you very much!' And he laughed and said, 'Well, I love you too.'
"I don't know, there was something about when we locked eyes. I just remember saying to myself, 'It's important if you know someone's not well, remember to say it, Sharon.' "
