CANNES, France -- Hollywood celebrity is a curse, not a blessing, when making serious films and could make her the target for terrorists in her humanitarian work, Angelina Jolie said yesterday.
"Nobody's immune but certainly we're all more aware of things," Jolie said, in response to a Sun Media question about travelling to political hotspots and being targeted for kidnapping.
"Some people's opinion is that I should never go to certain places with my children, but that's just not the world I live in and I don't want to live in a box. I will be smart but I will live a very bold life and I will learn about the world."
A day after introducing A Mighty Heart at the Cannes Film Festival -- it is the story of how Islamic terrorists kidnap and murder journalist Daniel Pearl -- Jolie said that celebrity was a problem for the film.
"I would love to think that's a help, but sometimes it can be a distraction and undermine how serious (a film might be)."
In the case of A Mighty Heart, which stars Jolie as Mariane Pearl, "It had to be handled so carefully," she said. "Sometimes the fact that I am so public in other ways could have hurt.
"But now that the film is made and we are very proud of it, I'm glad to do everything I can to bring attention to it."
That includes putting her life with Brad Pitt -- who produced the film -- on public display at Cannes, Jolie said. The film opens June 22.
