LOS ANGELES -- Halifax's Ellen Page, nominated for a best actress Oscar tonight for Juno and who won a Spirit Award last night for best female lead, is the hottest "It Girl" in Hollywood.
She got there on sublime talent, not just on looks, according to veteran filmmakers Norman Jewison and Ivan Reitman.
"She is almost supernaturally gifted," Reitman tells Sun Media. His son Jason directed Juno and Reitman senior now knows Page well.
"There is this intelligence beyond her years. At the same time, she is a real eastern Canadian (with) that combination of Canadian humbleness and naturalness. She is a small-town girl who is trying desperately to hold on to her reality."
Jewison has no personal stake in Juno, but he admires and respects Page, who turned 21 on Thursday.
"It is an extraordinary performance," he tells Sun Media.
"She is just talented, that's all. It is just one of those things that is hard to de-scribe. She's got something that the camera loves. And I think she's very quick and very smart and very intelligent. Canadian actors, on the whole, are very intelligent. I just think they are bright and thoughtful."
