Fashion hits and misses from the red carpet.
MILEY CYRUS -- MISS
"Looks like Miley Cyrus took complaints that she looked too mature in Valentino last year to heart and wore her rhinestone-encrusted home-economics sewing assignment. While fishtale gowns were hot on the red carpet, these fish scale-inspired scallops just plain stink."
VANESSA HUDGENS -- HIT
"Vanessa Hudgens revives old school glamour in a black fishtail gown adorned with white and black orchid-like flowers across the bust and dangly white earrings. Audrey Hepburn would be proud. Her messy updo perfects the youthful, but inspired look. Sure to be knocked off a prom near you."
TARAJI P. HENSON -- HIT
"Taraji P. Henson looked sure to reel in a trophy in a white, figure hugging fishtail number. While many actresses went with the white look, she did it best. Her diamond-encrusted flowered-inspired necklace was blooming pretty. Her contrasting red bag is a sparkling accent."
HEIDI KLUM -- HIT
"Model and actress Heidi Klum showed off her best assets these days -- her legs -- in a high slit red asymmetrical and sculptural envelope, er, dress by Roland Mouret. Judging from the multiple bracelets, looks like she needs to pump up a little to carry that much bling on her arm."
ANNE HATHAWAY -- HIT
"Proving that looking good does comes at a price, Anne Hathaway struggled to move in her uber-tight glimmering champagne-coloured dress by Armani Prive. Walking is, apparently, overrated. Maybe she knew she already knows she won't have to climb to the podium?"
KATE WINSLET -- HIT
"Kate Winslet looked dark and sophisticated in her one-shouldered two-tone gown (a big trend last night) in steel grey and black by Yves Saint Laurent. She's toned down the bling too, possibly because she's hoping to accessorize with some serious gold later in the evening? Her hair, unfortunately, looks like it was done by the same sculptor who created Oscar. A little too unnatural."
BEYONCE -- MISS
"Beyonce taps into the floral graphic trend in her own unique way, with (sigh, another) fishtale dress. Does her mother not have any other sewing patterns? At least she toned down her usual bling because I'm not sure just what would match this black and gold embroidered."
JESSICA BIEL -- MISS
"Jessica Biel -- who accessorized her white iPhone with her outfit -- stands out in her very elegant long Prada dress. Her messy sideswept do is on trend, but is it too much to ask that she comb her hair before a big even like the Academy Awards?"
MICKEY ROURKE -- HIT
"Mickey Rourke's biggest fashion accessory was a necklace featuring a portrait of his beloved but recently deceased Chihuahua. He bragged he had a tuxedo specially built for his 18-year-old pet Loki, who died in his arms six days ago. Rourke went against the tuxedo trend with a Jean-Paul Gaultier cream-coloured suit with a black vest but sans tie."
