LOS ANGELES -- Kate Winslet says her husband of six years, director Sam Mendes, had no problem supervising her naked sex scenes with Leonardo DiCaprio in Revolutionary Road. She was freaking out, however.
"The person who was the most professional getting through the intimate moments in Revolutionary Road was Sam," a giddy Winslet admitted backstage at the Oscars on Sunday night, after winning her first Oscar as best actress for The Reader (another part in which she has nude scenes).
"You know, I was pathetic," Winslet said of acting nude for Mendes in Revolutionary Road. "And he was absolutely brilliant."
Mendes had "seen me naked before we met, for goodness sake," Winslet said of her famous willingness to act in the buff in past films. So he kept advising her to get on with it in Revolutionary Road, she recounts.
"And I would turn to him and say, "Yes, darling, but you're standing right there. So isn't it allowed to be a little big weird?' And he was just stupid: 'Just get on with it!' He was just completely professional."
The couple, who were both born in the same hospital (but 10 years apart) in the Berkshire town of Reading, England, have a five-year-old son, Joe Alfie Winslet Mendes. Winslet also has a daughter Mia from her first marriage.
