Oscar swag bags worth $91,000

Some items in the 'consolation' gift bags for losers in the high-profile Oscar categories.

Talk about lovely parting gifts — wow.

All the non-winning Oscar nominees in the main categories will receive a consolation gift bag delivered straight to their doors on Monday morning — containing $91,000 worth of free stuff.

It’s almost worth losing!

I got a sneak peek at the famous basket on Friday. Here’s what the stars will be swamped with if they leave empty-handed Sunday night:

Trips galore. The most expensive gift is a private safari trip in South Africa worth $45,000 for up to eight adults and eight kids. It includes a private chef, and no paparazzi. There’s also a $14,500 Monte Carlo trip, and a private-island vacation at a Turks & Caicos sporting club.

Swiss Army has crafted a special leather suitcase worth $4,000; there are only 175 of them in the world.

A $4,850 one-week boot camp, Slimware portion-control plates and 10 personal training sessions.

To spoil themselves they also receive a $500 La Peau Couture anti-wrinkle face cream. Who knew a cosmetic could be so expensive?

Celebrities’ cats will get a Tiffany crystal-studded collar and a FlipCam. Yes, a FlipCam with the face of a cat on it. For dog owners, there’s a voucher for a professional dog photo studio.

And then there are the usual high-end hair and skin-care products, a year’s supply of Altoids Smalls, a pig board game, some zen CDs, a personal security alarm, a certificate for an indoor skydiving experience, a voucher for a new $1,600 Serta mattress, and a certified, eco-friendly, carbon-free personal shredder.

For the eighth year, Distinctive Assets has put together these swag bags. According to Dina Rezvanipour, VP of the company, the $91,000 value this year breaks the record. A sign of recession recovery?

“I think we had so many tragedies this year, and the stars were so involved an generous, companies wanted to reward them,” Rezvanipour explained when met in their Los Angeles warehouse on Friday. They had just finished packing the 26 gift bags ready to be delivered. Hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will also get one.

For celebrities who refuse to receive the free goodies, they have the option to give them to charity.
