In Calgary filmmaker Gary Burns' world, real life is perpetually out of kilter, if not absurd. So he works that into his movies, oddball and appealing flicks such as The Suburbanators, Kitchen Party and Waydowntown.
The full title of his latest effort -- A Problem With Fear: Or Laurie's Anxiety Confronting The Escalator -- signals that nothing has changed in Burns' approach. This low-key, out-of-mainstream feature is currently playing in Toronto after making its debut at the Toronto filmfest in September. It finishes its run tomorrow.
