The Basket is a bucolic melodrama about World War I, wheat fields, basketball, gambling and German opera.
If that isn't exciting enough, co-writer and director Rich Cowan tosses in subplots about burning love and burning barns, plus the art of fixing farm implements and the artlessness of indulging in ignorant bigotry.
