Since the day it was coined in reference to the Adolf Eichmann trial, "the banality of evil" has been so overused as an observation of what Nazis were like as to become banal itself.
Ironically, 81-year-old Traudl Junge -- the chain-smoking title character of the minimalist German documentary Hitler's Secretary -- actually utters the word "banal" as she watches video footage of herself being interviewed.
