Movie Review: Bourne Identity, The

A spy is 'Bourne'
He doesn't have a nitro-powered Aston Martin at his disposal. There is no Q to make him a watch that shoots laser beams or a ball-point pen that explodes like a grenade. He doesn't wear custom-made tuxedos, have buxom bimbos swooning at his every word or cute little quips to antagonize the baddies, yet, Jason Bourne of "The Bourne Identity" is one wicked spy.

Don't get me wrong. I am a huge fan of the Bond series of films and novels. It is just that until Roger Moore was put out to pasture where he belongs, 007 had lost his edge. Even with Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan bringing back some of the no nonsense, give no quarter qualities that Sean Connery brought to the role way back when, the lighthearted James Bond you see on the big screen is a clown compared to the devious and efficient secret agent you can read about in the books. In fact, Jason Bourne is more like the James Bond that Ian Fleming envisioned than the goofball Hollywood has turned him into in the past.
