Movie Review: Charlotte Gray

Gray not nearly exciting enough
Given its pedigree, Charlotte Gray should have been a much better film.

It's based on a best-seller by Sebastian Faulks, who has made a career of exploring the role of ordinary people in Britain and Europe during the Second World War.

Charlotte is grey indeed
Half a century after the end of WWII, here comes the last unexploded bomb.

Dreary, dull and plodding, Charlotte Gray is the rare property not even the presence of Cate Blanchett can redeem. Blanchett, who could probably turn a Gong Show appearance into high art, can't be faulted for anything except agreeing to star in this film, which reunited her with Gillian Armstrong, the director who gave her a career break with Oscar & Lucinda.
