Director Mike Hodges sort of fell on bad times between making his extraordinary crime movie Get Carter in 1971 and Croupier.
He went Hollywood for a while and directed a couple of forgettable movies (Damien: Omen II, Florida Straits) and at least two very bad ones (Flash Gordon, A Prayer for the Dying). He never seemed to click with the material the way he did with in '71.
