Given how much I adore Cole Porter's legendary songbook, it would be nice to report that his musical biopic, De-Lovely, is just de-licious. Instead it verges on de-bysmal.
Yet there are attributes worthy of note: The songs are delivered on screen with sincerity and ingenuity. What might sound like a gimmick -- the casting of modern warblers such as Alanis Morissette to do these '20s, '30s, '40s and early '50s tunes -- turns out to be the only stroke of genius.
