Movie Review: Drowning Mona

Mona misses comedy mark
The screwball farce Drowning Mona would like to think of itself as Throw Momma from the Cliff.

Murder on the White Trash Express
The departed Mona Dearly (Bette Midler), the titular character of the new black comedy Drowning Mona, was "the worst person I ever met in my life," according to one young man who knew her.

Certainly, the woman would easily make the list of 10 world finalists in a terrible person pageant. That's what makes it difficult for Wyatt Rash (Danny DeVito), the show-tune-loving police chief of the backwater burg of Verplanck, N.Y. He must determine just who killed Mona by cutting the brake cables of her Yugo.
