Family tradition uprooted in East is East
East Is East is set among an English-Pakistani family in the swinging Manchester of the early '70s. But the conflict of assimilation-vs.-tradition transcends the specifics of space and time.

Patriarch George Khan (the great Om Puri) is a Pakistani immigrant determined to raise his seven children according to his own culture, despite the fact that he himself is married to a white Englishwoman, Ella (Linda Bassett).
