Stephanie (Valerie Buhagiar, who really was eight months pregnant during the shoot) is expecting her first child, and has planned to have several friends and lovers around for the big event. Stephanie is single, a performance artist and is meant to be a free-spirited, earth mother type. The three women who wrote the screenplay for Expecting, however, have made her, unwittingly or otherwise, more careless than carefree and a tad dense. It is very difficult to care about the character, and that is the central flaw of the film.
