The timing is purely coincidental, but unfortunate for the little guy: The Eye opens here today at the same time as the Hollywood opus Gothika.

The Eye -- or Gin Gwai -- was made in 2002 as a Hong Kong/Thailand/Britain co-production and shown that year at the Toronto filmfest in the Midnight Madness program. Only now getting its commercial release in Toronto, it plays mostly in Cantonese and limited Thai and Mandarin scenes, all with English subtitles.
