First there was Greendale, the concert -- a song-by-song re-enactment of Neil Young's latest concept album, which he calls "a musical novel." The legendary Canadian folk-rocker brought it to Toronto's Air Canada Centre twice last year.

At its best, with props, sets and actors who lip-synched to every song, the live performance came across as high school musical theatre.
