The Gift is a fairly standard mystery/thriller written by Billy Bob Thornton and Tom Epperson, and directed by Sam Raimi. The film stars Cate Blanchett, however, and therein lies a problem.
As an actor, Blanchett gets pretty close to perfect. Her talent is so impressive that this story feels too slight to hold her.
