Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, Strait-Jacket, Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte, Dead Ringer and Who Slew Auntie Roo? all worked because the actresses played the material for camp. Their performances were heightened enough to let the audience in on the fun, while still maintaining the chills and surprises in the plot twists.
