Like so many family road trips, I was hoping Johnson Family Vacation would end much sooner than it did.

It's an obvious attempt to repeat the nutty mayhem of Chevy Chase's National Lampoon Vacation movies, but it never reaches a comic momentum. It's a tedious outing.

If you've seen the Griswolds go off on any of those National Lampoon holidays, you've sort of already experienced Johnson Family Vacation. What this road comedy has in the way of a secret weapon is Cedric the Entertainer, potentially the only guy who could make material this tired funny all over again.

Cedric and Vanessa Williams are the Johnsons -- currently living apart -- and Bow Wow (he's dropped the Lil' part), Solange Knowles and Gabby Soleil play the Johnson children.
