The King Is Dancing is a costume drama about the court of Louis XIV, the life of the artist and how the two co-existed in the 17th century. Parts of the film are overwrought and the narrative slides into melodrama on occasion, but whatever else is going on, The King Is Dancing is a always a treat to look at and to listen to.

Dealing mostly with the first half of the Sun King's reign, The King Is Dancing (which is in French, with English subtitles) is told in flashback by an ailing Lully, the court musician.
