Movie Review: Lady And The Duke

Plays out to perfection
The Lady And The Duke, in French with English subtitles, is the story of Englishwoman Grace Elliott and her relationship with the Duke of Orleans. When she was 26, Elliott went to France to live; the film is based on her own memoirs: Journal Of My Life During The French Revolution.

Elliott (Lucy Russell) had been a mistress of the Prince of Wales before she caught the attention of Prince Phillipe, Duke of Orleans (Jean-Claude Dreyfus). The film is divided into five chapters, by date, and the audience's first introduction to Grace Elliott and the Duke of Orleans makes it clear that they are on opposite sides, philosophically, as the revolution draws near. Grace is a royalist.
