Yep, the blubbery-lipped succession of scaly sea life that narrate this tale of fate, chance and redemption is a definite tipoff that we should just believe in the powers of cosmic chaos and not think too hard about the improbability of it all.

Maelstroem explores dark places
You know you're not watching a 'normal' movie when you meet the narrator of Montreal filmmaker Denis Villeneuve's Maelstroem and he is a talking fish.

The poor fellow, an existentialist with a sonorous voice (provided by Pierre Lebeau) and the wisdom of the ages, is flopped out on a fish monger's bloody table. He is about to be decapitated, cleaned and filleted.
