Scatology is the study of excrement or obscenity. Movie 43, a miserable piece of crap from Hollywood, is scatotogical and obscene.
The bizarre thing about this terrible turd is that so many name people participated in pushing it out for producer-director Peter Farrelly, who was in charge of this multi-year vanity project.
The cast includes Kate Winslet, Emma Stone, Hugh Jackman, Dennis Quaid, Greg Kinnear, Common, Seth MacPharlane, Liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts, Kieran Culkin, Anna Faris, Richard Gere, Kate Bosworth, Uma Thurman, Justin Long, Kristen Bell, Johnny Knoxville, Halle Berry, Stephen Merchant, Terrence Howard, Josh Duhamel, Elizabeth Banks, a nude model who will go nameless and Gerard Butler as twin-brother Leprechauns with hairy faces and dirty gobs.
Actually, everyone in this fart-happy frolic has a foul mouth. In addition to obsessive references to poop, pee, vaginas, penises and the ballsack that literally hangs from Jackman's throat in one segment, Movie 43 is one long profanity.
The movie consists of a series of shorts. The directing roster includes Brett Ratner, Griffin Dunne, Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill and Bob Odenkirk. Although there is an overview plot involving Quaid, as a psychopathic pitching a movie idea to studio executive Kinnear, that device is used loosely. Some skits are randomly inserted.
Of the 14 segments, only two have merit. The rest are garbage. Not because they are offensive, crude, rude, racist and sexist -- although they are all that -- but because they are so lame-ass about it. One demented episode of Robot Chicken could kick Movie 43 to a merciful death.
With those two exceptions. One is an ironic oddity, a B&W bit about the kids toiling inside machines for the benefit of all mankind. The other is a twisted love story between Culkin and Stone at a grocery store cash register. Otherwise, avert your eyes and cover your ears. This movie should not be seen or heard.
