At the Cannes Film Festival in May, Joel Coen and David Lynch tied in the race for best director -- Coen for The Man Who Wasn't There and Lynch for Mulholland Drive -- even though both artsy films mystified many viewers.
By coincidence, the two films are now in competition at the box office, with the Lynch thriller opening last week and the Coen Brothers' murder mystery on board today.
