The New Guy is a good-hearted conquering-geek teen movie that is every bit as dumb and derivative as the trailers imply.
What the trailers don't convey is that it's fairly self-aware in its dumbness -- enough to hint that it could have been to geek-makes-good films what Scary Movie is to teen slasher flicks.
