In a conversation about Apocalypse Now Redux earlier this year, Francis Ford Coppola told me that, by definition, all war movies are really anti-war movies, his Vietnam opus included.
Coppola's contention was that, even when propaganda movies depict war, just showing that level of human conflict and carnage is enough to turn logical viewers to the anti-war side.
