It may not be the perfect movie, and it certainly isn't all Hollywood slick, yet The Perfect Son is one of those rough gems that make the filmgoing experience richer and deeper.
Set in Toronto, and written and directed by rookie filmmaker Leonard Farlinger, The Perfect Son first appeared, modestly, at the Toronto film festival in September. Then it was nominated for -- but didn't win -- a pair of Genies. Now it is getting its commercial release. That presents a challenge.
