Here is a bleak tale about a wee lad of 12 who faces a bleak future against a bleak background of poverty and depression in bleak old Glasgow. Lordy.

Ratcatcher is a beautifully-made film, but so unremittingly depressing that you really need to be a serious cinema lover or possibly in a permanent bad mood to take it on.
