Simpatico is set in the world of horse racing, but it doesn't win, place or even show -- it comes in dead last.

 The story, based on a Sam Shepard play, bounces back and forth between modern day, when Jeff Bridges is a millionaire closing a huge deal on a Triple-Crown winning horse and Nick Nolte is a man tortured by his past, and the 1970s, when the two friends were breaking into the horse racing business.
