When Otar phones from Paris, everything at home in Tbilisi stops. Otar is a former physician now doing construction work in France, and his aged mother (Esther Gorintin) lives for his phone calls and letters.

Mom's devotion to Otar doesn't sit too well with her other child, Otar's sister, Marina (Nino Khomassouridze).
