The zany Woody is back
There is nothing small time about Woody Allen. He is the only filmmaker who has routinely put out a new film every year for the past 40 years.

Allen's newest film, Small Time Crooks, is a lighthearted caper comedy that recalls his 1969 farce Take the Money and Run.

A Small Time effort by Woody Allen
Small Time Crooks is being heralded as a return to the good old days of Woody Allen comedy. That's nice.

Meanwhile, the movie has all the potential to be downright hilarious, but this alleged return to his comedic roots has Allen directing in a fashion so heavy-handed that his cast is left to overdo everything and in scenes of sitcomish idiocy. The comedic timing is awry, here.
