It is difficult to imagine Hollywood backing The Statement. The film is an intellectually hefty piece about an elderly French bigot wanted for the crimes against humanity he committed four decades earlier during the Holocaust.
Sure enough, Hollywood did not get involved, although there are familiar Hollywood names in play. The Statement co-stars Michael Caine and Tilda Swinton and it was directed by Canadian Norman Jewison, whose American credits include distinguished socio-political fare.
