When you stagger out of the theatre after watching the new Iranian movie Ten, you may find yourself wondering just what, exactly, was the point.
This new experimental film from director Abbas Kiarostami takes the term minimalism to the very extreme. Ten is a series of 10 vignettes spread out over an hour and a half and set completely inside of a car. Throughout most of the film, we see the "action" from two points of view: Low angle shots of the car's driver (Mania Akbari) and the various passengers who sit in the seat beside her as she drives throughout the city, running errands. Besides a prostitute, the passengers include the driver's sister, and her young son Amin (Amin Maher), whose conversations with her always degenerate into irritating screaming matches.
