Director Simon Wells has taken his great-grandfather H.G. Wells' classic novel The Time Machine and infused it with a major dose of Hollywood -- leaving a product that is big on flash and low on substance.

Wells wrote The Time Machine in 1895 as a cautionary fable about the class structure in Victorian Britain. Feeling the privileged upper classes were becoming far too dependent on the working classes, he predicted a distant future where the decadent, pleasure-loving elite called Eloi would become food for the toiling worker class of Morlocks.
