Trembling Before G-d is an extraordinary documentary about Orthodox Jews who are passionately religious and also gay. As the Bible is fairly clear on this matter ("They shall be put to death,") the gay and lesbian Hasidim who take part in Trembling Before G-d are a gobsmacking study in courage.
Several subjects interviewed for this film did so with their faces hidden. At any rate, meet David, a very religious man, son of a cantor, articulate, bright, searching, devastated. David is gay and spent 10 years trying to change that part of his identity. On a religious level, he wants answers.
