At the beginning of Under The Stars, Luka, a boy in Cyprus, plays happily in a pastoral setting. Within minutes, his life is changed forever. It's 1974, and his island is being invaded by Turkish troops. The child is carried away to safety by a family friend, and -- fast forward to the year 2000 -- we meet him next as a withdrawn young man living in Nicosia.
Under The Stars is a movie about home, family, memory and nationhood. And the endless after-effects of war.
