Movie Review: War Zone

Disturbing Zone
There are some acts so heinous they don't need to be seen to remind us how evil they are.

The horrifying sexual abuse depicted in The War Zone may be a case in point. Opening tonight at the Princess II Theatre, it's a grim tale of the complete disintegration of a British family. It makes Ingmar Bergman look like John Hughes.

Scarred in the War Zone
The title is misleading. The War Zone is not a battlefield film. Instead, it is an interior family drama. The war is emotional.

 The family is English, newly arrived in seemingly dull Devon from London. There is a father (the remarkable Ray Winstone), a 15-year-old son (Freddie Cunliffe) who is the family's nascent conscience, a daughter (sublimely talented Lara Belmont) and a pregnant mom (Tilda Swinton).
