The title is misleading. The War Zone is not a battlefield film. Instead, it is an interior family drama. The war is emotional.
The family is English, newly arrived in seemingly dull Devon from London. There is a father (the remarkable Ray Winstone), a 15-year-old son (Freddie Cunliffe) who is the family's nascent conscience, a daughter (sublimely talented Lara Belmont) and a pregnant mom (Tilda Swinton).
