No less august an authority than the New York Times pronounced last week that filmmaker James Toback (The Pick-up Artist, Black And White) has a more accurate finger on the pulse of New York these days than does Woody Allen.
This is not good news for the city's Chamber Of Commerce. Toback's down 'n' dirty Manhattan is definitely not the city in those I (Heart) New York ads. In his Big Apple, even the glamorous is seedy.
