A troubled brother-in-law of Shania Twain, wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parole violations, shot himself in the head over the weekend rather than face arrest by the OPP.
Jason Bernard Logan, 32, was found dead Saturday evening in White River, north of Sault Ste. Marie, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, OPP said in a press release.
Neither the OPP nor the province's Special Investigations Unit would comment on the case yesterday.
The SIU, which looks at all instances in which someone is injured or dies during police operations, is investigating Logan's death.
Logan was wanted for violating his parole in Edmonton after he failed to report in February. Cops there said he had served 20 months in jail for possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of stolen property.
It was thought Logan might head west as he has family in Surrey, B.C. Instead he was found riding in a car stopped for speeding on Wednesday near Hwy. 17, 20 km north of the Dubreuville turnoff.
The OPP officer who pulled the car over was about to question Logan, a passenger in the car, about some handgun bullets on the seat when Logan bolted into the bush.
A search involving a helicopter and tactical units from as far away as London failed to turn up any trace of the fugitive. Then on Saturday evening an officer patrolling in White River spotted Logan.
The officer approached him but he ran off again. He was found not far away, lying between two rail cars, dead from what police believe was a self-inflicted gunshot.
Logan's drug sentence came after he was arrested with his brother-in-law Darryl Twain -- the famous singer's half-brother -- by Edmonton cops in 2004.
