CD Review: Bachman/Cummings: Songbook
Solid but short SongbookBy DARRYL STERDAN -- Winnipeg Sun
Randy Bachman & Burton Cummings Bachman Cummings Songbook (Sony BMG) It is, we gotta say, a swell idea: The greatest hits of The Guess Who, and the finest moments of Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings' solo careers, all in one set. And there's no denying that every tune on the 19-track Bachman Cummings Songbook is a solid-gold keeper: GW hits like American Woman, These Eyes and Laughing, Burton solo numbers like Stand Tall and I'm Scared, BTO gems like You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet and, of course, Takin' Care of Business. You even get liner notes from Cummings. There's just one thing wrong: The set is too short. Nine songs isn't enough to sum up The Guess Who; nor can you cover Randy and Burton's solo careers in five tunes. This really oughta should be a two-disc affair. After all, if Bachman and Cummings don't deserve that, who in Canada does? Track Listing:
