LeToya discovering her destiny
BILL HARRIS -- Toronto Sun
Former Destiny's Child vocalist LeToya is touring with Mary J. Blige this summer and a Toronto date is a virtual certainty. "Yes, I'm going on tour with Mary J. Blige and I think we're coming to Toronto," LeToya said yesterday. "Hopefully, anyway. I'm pretty sure we are." LeToya is in Toronto this week for the first time since the late 1990s, when she still was a member of Destiny's Child. "It has been years and years since I've been here, but I remember MuchMusic, I remember Roots, I remember a lot about it," said LeToya, who currently is promoting her self-titled debut solo CD, which hits stores on July 18. The 25-year-old Houston native made an appearance at MuchMusic yesterday and was scheduled to perform a brief set before a private audience at a club last night. She will co-host a radio show on The Flow 93.5 this morning. Following her messy breakup with Destiny's Child a half-decade ago, LeToya finally is following her own destiny with child-like excitement. She admitted it took her a while to build up enough confidence to embark upon a solo career. "My part in Destiny's Child was the soprano, while LaTavia (Robertson) was the alto, B (Beyonce Knowles) sang lead and Kelly (Rowland) sang lead, too, so we all had our roles and we knew our roles," LeToya said. "For me to be in the studio singing soprano, alto, bass and have my own little thing going on, it was different, because I was so used to being in a group. The members of Destiny's Child first got together when we were 10. So being in a group had become very reassuring." As for performing on her own, LeToya said, "Sometimes I'm looking to my left or to my right and I'm saying, 'Whoa, I see the dancers, but I'm looking for someone else with a mike here.' "But you know, I'm so excited. I'm just going to do the best I can, have fun and let people feel my music." |
