2006 Toronto summer concert guide
The complete guide to the major music shows hitting Hogtown
By -- Toronto Sun

Who's selling? Radiohead's two-night stand at the Hummingbird Centre on June 7 & 8 sold out in minutes.

There's good and bad news about the upcoming summer concert season in Toronto.

Big rock bands like Radiohead and Foo Fighters, along with ballsy pop-rock singer Pink, are playing intimate shows, so tickets were either gone in minutes or are expected to. The Foos show goes on sale today and the official announcement of Pink's July 13 stop at Kool Haus is expected next week.

Also snapped up quickly were ducats for upcoming summer stops by Dave Matthews Band, Arctic Monkeys, The Tragically Hip, Panic! At The Disco, The Streets, Jon Stewart, Brooks & Dunn, Larry The Cable Guy, Kenny Rogers, Roger Waters, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

And Nickelback, Van Morrison, and Mariah Carey are expected to do brisk business when tickets for their summer concerts go on sale.

Dates by Ringo Starr, Nine Inch Nails, the Olympic Island festival headlined by Broken Social Scene, Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings, Dashboard Confessional, Slayer, Wilco, Sheryl Crow, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the Counting Crows and Goo Goo Dolls, Shakira, Ozzfest headlined by System Of A Down, Heart, Carrie Underwood, and Gretchen Wilson are selling well and will likely sell out.

On the rumour front, we may still get a late summer date from The Who and pencilled in for July amphitheatre show are Nelly Furtado and Belle & Sebastian.

A Sept. 25 stop at the amphitheatre by Tool is tentatively a go after the prog-metal favourites played the Hummingbird Centre earlier this month. The websites of Vince Gill and Terri Clark say they'll visit Casino Rama on Sept. 7-8 and Sept. 29-30, respectively.

Pollstar reports summer stops by India Arie (July 7 at the Danforth Music Hall), Buffy Sainte-Marie (July 12 at Hugh's Room), The Futureheads (July 26 at the Phoenix), Jane Siberry (Aug. 2-3 at Hugh's Room), and Ne-Yo (Aug. 23 at the Air Canada Centre).

There's also the possibility of an intimate date by Ice Cube (June) and a visit by Sonic Youth (August at the Phoenix), with rumours swirling of a festival featuring the Flaming Lips, who wowed a sold-out crowd at the Phoenix earlier this year.

Sadly though, it looks as if some of the biggest names touring this summer are giving our city a miss.

We found out last month that we're not getting Madonna - crucifixion on stage and all -- with her only Canadian dates in Montreal on June 21-22 at the Bell Centre.

David Gray plays Ottawa on Aug. 8 at the National Arts Centre, but won't revisit Toronto.

Also not looking good are summer stops by Paul Simon, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen, Rob Thomas and Jewel, Kelly Clarkson, Kenny Chesney, and American Idols Live.

Looking ahead to the fall, Pink will return to play the Air Canada Centre in either October or November and there will be October stops by James Blunt (Air Canada Centre), Teddy Geiger (Kool Haus) and possibly a fall club show by Jack White's new side project The Raconteurs.
